Just found out that Nate Dogg, chief crooner for the Dogg Pound and LBC representer passed away yesterday!
Pretty shit huh – obviously pretty sad news but nothing like the shit going down in Japan or Libya at the moment, which kinda puts things in perspective.
He got his break after (a very young) Dr Dre heard his demo tape at a house party and decided that he needed that souled out sound on his next LP along with a young MC also on the demo tape: Snoop Dogg. The next LP happened to be Dr. Dre’s The Chronic which made global superstars out of the lot of em.
Nate continued releasing music, his best recieved and highest charting work were collaborations with other MC’s or rappers, Nate singing the hook and guest mc on the verse, this was a recipe for success and Mr. Dogg notched up 40 odd chart singles with artists as diverse as 50 Cent, Craig David, MArk Ronson, Eminem, Nelly and Shaquille O’Neal.
Anyway here’s a couple of tunes intended as a minor tribute for Nate Dogg:
Warren G & Nate Dogg – Regulate
Mos Def feat. Pharoahe Monch & Nate Dogg – Oh No
Ludacris ft. Nate Dogg – Area Codes
